A guided hike into quantum machine learning

    08 Jul 2026 — 09 Jul 2026
    Maison de la Simulation, Gif-sur-Yvette
The lecture will cover a basic introduction to quantum neural networks, quantum kernels, and data encoding techniques, with hands-on sessions for each. More advanced topics such as barren plateaus, expressivity, and "application <-> hardware" pipelines will be brushed over but not covered in detail.

Quantum Machine Learning Bad Honnef Physics School

    16 Aug 2026 — 21 Aug 2026
    Physikzentrum Bad Honnef
Quantum computing has emerged as one of the most promising technologies of the 21st century, yet its practical use cases and programming paradigms remain unfamiliar. At the same time, artificial intelligence and machine learning are transforming research and industry at an unprecedented pace. The intersection of these two areas, Quantum Machine Learning (QML) represents a rapidly expanding topic, but its concepts are still only partially understood and rarely taught in a coherent, hands-on framework. Some of the most promising ideas in QML draw on methods and insights that are not widely known outside specialized research groups. Despite their potential, these approaches are rarely presented in summer schools or general machine learning conferences, leaving a significant knowledge gap for young researchers entering the field. We aim to bridge this gap by providing junior scientists—particularly master’s students nearing graduation, PhD candidates, and early-career postdocs—with a structured introduction to Quantum Machine Learning. The program covers both fundamental concepts and advanced topics and Tensor Networks in AI, fostering interdisciplinary connections. Participants will gain a solid theoretical foundation along with practical, hands-on experience, including the opportunity to run experiments on IQM hardware during the school. We have identified leading experts whose work sits at the convergence of quantum computing and AI, and who combine scientific excellence with the proven ability to deliver clear and engaging lectures suited to early-career researchers. All of them have agreed to contribute to the school, ensuring that participants receive a rigorous introduction.

    Q-Works

    24 Aug 2026 — 25 Aug 2026
    Pisa
As quantum computers are starting to be integrated into HPC facilities, challenges arise across the full stack to ensure effective HPC–quantum cooperation. These challenges range from integrating heterogeneous software stacks, to efficiently allocating and scheduling shared resources, and identifying suitable near-term applications that justify on-premise HPC integration as opposed to exclusive cloud-based access. Q‑WORKS aims to gather HPC and quantum experts to collect the latest advancements in the integration of quantum computers within HPC facilities. The workshop serves as a venue for multiple, sometimes non-intersecting communities — quantum software experts, systems software experts, researchers from hosting entities, representatives from European and nationally funded projects (e.g., EUROQHPC‑I, EuroHPC Centres of Excellence), and hardware vendors — to convene and exchange experiences on integrating and programming quantum computers in an HPC environment.

JUNIQ/EPIQ Summer School on Quantum Computing 2026

    24 Aug 2026 — 28 Aug 2026
    Forschungszentrum Jülich
The Jülich Supercomputing Centre will host the summer school on “Quantum Computing – Applications across Digital and Analog Architectures” from August 24 to 28, 2026. The school is jointly organized by the Jülich UNified Infrastructure for Quantum computing (JUNIQ) and the NRW-funded project Entwicklungspartnerschaft Ionenfallen-Quantencomputer (EPIQ), a collaboration between Forschungszentrum Jülich and the quantum start-up eleQtron from Siegen. Additional contributions are provided by partners from academia and industry, including the QuGrids project and HQS Quantum Simulations. The program combines lectures and hands-on sessions covering gate-based quantum computing, quantum annealing, and quantum simulation. Particular emphasis will be placed on real-world applications in optimization, scientific computing, and energy systems, highlighting how different quantum computing paradigms can be integrated into practical scientific and industrial workflows. Participants will gain hands-on experience using quantum computing resources accessible through the cloud-based JUNIQ platform and will have the opportunity to present their own research interests during a poster session. Participation is free of charge, and the event will take place on-site only.
